The CIES IT Conference
How Green is Your IT? Opportunity or Threat? Marketing Ploy or New Business Model?
10 - 11 April 2008
Barcelona, Spain

100 IT Executives from 20 countries came together in Barcelona to discuss and debate around the topics of Green IT:
- Green IT
- Sustainability
- Corporate Social Responsibility,
- Food Safety & Traceability

The conference offered delegates practical case studies, breakout sessions, knowledge and networking.
The breakout sessions enabled delegates to learn from practical case studies in Green IT. Accenture, IBM, TraceTracker and Wincor Nixdorf shared their experiences with the delegates.
Speakers in the Plenary Sessions included AEON, Coop, Cafés Malongo, Coca-Cola Hellenic, Delhaize, Hannaford Bros. Co., John Lewis Partnership, Metro Group Solutions, Waitrose and Wal-Mart Stores.

Delegates were also had the opportunity to discover the Spanish retail scene by visiting El Corte Inglés, Mercadona, Caprabo and the local market La Boquería, with the IT experts from these companies.

Business Transformation & Business Intelligence - Driving Business Value through IT
15 - 16 March 2007
Monte-Carlo, Monaco

134 IT Executives from 23 countries came together in Monaco to discuss and debate around the topics of Business Intelligence and Business Transformation.

The conference offered delegates practical case studies, breakout sessions, knowledge and networking. Delegates looked at how IT can change the business, RFID, how we can use Business Intelligence to drive the business, and the impact of technology tomorrow.
The breakout sessions enabled delegates to learn from practical case studies in Business Intelligence and Business Transformation.

, and Edeka shared their experiences with the delegates.
Speakers in the Plenary Sessions included Carrefour, Coop, Food Lion, Delhaize, Procter & Gamble, Spar and Woolworths.

Delegates were also on the shop floor with visits to Carrefour, Casino and Galeries Lafayette Gourmet with the IT experts from these companies

326 IT & Supply Chain Executives from 33 countries came together in Geneva to discuss their top-of-mind issues in IT & Supply Chain and understand how technology can help improve supply chain efficiency.

Delegates looked at the Consumer of Tomorrow, On-shelf Availability, Out-of-Stocks, Shelf-Ready Packaging, Automated Order Picking Systems, VMI, Delivery Optimisation, RFID, Collaboration between Retailers and Manufacturers, Paperless Supply Chain, End-to-End Supply Chain, Planning & Forecasting and ReatilLink. 

Delegates were also on the shop floor with visits to Migros, COOP and Manor with the IT & Supply Chain experts from these companies.

 

The CIES IT Study Tour

14 - 19 May 2006
Japan & South Korea

The CIES IT Study Tour 2006 was an exclusive event for CIES members enabled Senior Executives in IT to take a deeper look at the Consumer of Tomorrow and how we will interface with them in the future. The CIES IT Study Tour also focused on Innovation in Technology and how it drives new business models in retail.

The IT Study Tour enabled the participants to have an inside look into what is being developed in Japan & South Korea and to meet and network with the IT Executives behind this progress. The group visited the Tsukiji Fish Market, Mitsukoshi Department Store, Aeon, Fujitsu International Forum, Denso – A Toyota Group Company, Samsung-Tesco, Emart, Homeplus, Samsung Electronics, South Korean Telecom, Akihabara Electric Town, Coca-Cola Japan.

The IT Study Tour participants joined forces with over 60 Japanese executives for an Exchange Session on the common issues the retail industry faces in Information Technology.

The IT Study Tour takes place every 2 years and aims to encourage out of the box thinking and stimulate new ideas which can be implemented into the participants companies.

From Store to Customer – IT Delivering Value

Berlin, Germany

The CIES IT Conference in Berlin gathered 165 IT Directors from 25 countries to discuss In-Store Processes.
The conference started with a Store Visits Programme bringing delegates to Real, - Reichelt and Wal-Mart and seeing IT in Action on the shop floor with the IT Directors.

The conference offered delegates practical case studies, breakout sessions, knowledge and networking. Delegates looked at how to Enrich the Customer Experience in the Store with IT, how to Improve Store Efficiency and to Anticipate Future Store Operations.
The breakout sessions enabled delegates to get close to the speakers and see what is really happening with IT. Spar, Tesco, Norgesgruppen, ICA, Delhaize and Waitrose shared their experiences with the delegates.
Speakers in the Plenary Sessions included Edeka, Tesco, Metro, Waitrose, ICA Banken AB, Carrefour, Coop, Delhaize and Wal-Mart.

The delegates also voted on the Top-of-Mind issues for the industry and the following issues were voted as the top 5 in priority:
  1. Improving Business Processes
  2. Gaining Competitive Advantage
  3. Demonstrating Value of IT Projects which help Drive Business Growth
  4. Cost Control
  5. Faster Innovation

The IT Study Tour

19 - 23 April 2004

Europe

The CIES International Committee on Information Technology in conjunction with the CIES members have decided to hold an Information Study Tour in Europe. The study tour took place from the 18 until the 23 of April 2004.

The objective was to visit companies with the latest technological developments in the food retail industry.

A limited number of IT Directors attended this exclusive study tour.

The study tour was the ideal opportunity to benefit from exceptional knowledge and networking exchanges. The visits took place in Belgium, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

Tag, Trace & Synchronise - The Retail Experience in Data Synchronisation, Traceability & RFID

The CIES conference gathered 300 Directors from 28 countries in Paris to discuss the issues of Data Synchronisation, Traceability and RFID.

The IT Conference

Winning IT Strategies in retail - ERP vs. Best of Breed

10 - 11 April 2003
Lisbon, Portugal

This two-day event enabled 130 IT executives to find out where retailers stand regarding the question of “ERP vs. Best of Breed” in the Food Retail Industry.

Through case studies, panel debates and discussion CIES provided participants with ideas, retailer’s points of view and the latest trends.
CIES aimed to present participants with best practices and practical solutions, which can be adapted and applied, to members company.


This exchange platform gave participants the ideal opportunity to meet with counterparts and see what they do and where participants were standing.

 


The IT Study Tour

28 April - 3 May 2002

North America

 

This tour consisted of visits to several North American retailers and research laboratories, including Hudson's Bay, Loblaw's, IBM, Sobey's, Wegmans, Dorothy Lane, Marsh and Procter and Gamble.

The store visits as well as discussions with retail experts allowed the tour participants to discover the latest developments in Information Technology in the North-American retail sector and to exchange ideas and experiences in a professional environment.
